Body Awareness as Healing Therapy or Elements

Body Awareness as Healing Therapy: The Case of Nora

Author: Moshe Feldenkrais

Body Awareness as Healing Therapy: The Case of Nora is Moshe Feldenkrais' classic study of his work with Nora, a woman who has suffered a severe stroke and lost her neuromuscular coordination, including the ability to read and write. Feldenkrais uses rational and intuitive approaches to help his student relearn basic motor skills. One can observe here the groundwork of Feldenkrais' extraordinary insights which became known as the Feldenkrais Method. We follow his detailed descriptions of the trial and error process which led him to see the ingredients that were needed to help Nora reshape her attention, perception, imagination and cognition.

Elements

Author: Jason Roberts

The book's title, Elements, reflects the needs for many different elements in one's life to lead a healthy and balanced existence. The title is also drawn from the elements of nature—harsh and serene—all needed for the world to function.

But you're also taken into the personal world of celebrity chef Jason Roberts—a world none of us normally sees—encompassing Jason's love for surfing, water sports, eating, family, friends and entertaining. The water elements of Jason's beloved home town of Sydney, Australia are also showcased.

The cuisine concept for the book draws from Jason's formal training and background in Classical French Cuisine while synthesizing an eclectic mix of Asian and modern Australian cooking. You'll find recipes (and the stories behind them) from Jason's farflung friends, too—everything from Shen's Singapore Chilli Mud crab to Royal Australian Navy officer Pat's quick pasta sauce for a guy on the go.

Throughout, Jason's nutritional focus is on "grazing"—lots of little meals more often—for a healthier metabolism and sustained energy. He also explains portion control and how much is enough when you're eating specific meats and vegetables.

And while the book is mindful and respectful of tradition it favors low moisture cooking, reduced fat intake, and the use of consistently fresh ingredients.

Includes a DVD of Jason Roberts walking you through the creation of some of his most mouth-watering recipes! (See him prepare his barbecue recipe in this DVD clip [5:16]).

About the Author
International celebrity chef and New Zealand native Jason Roberts could easily be mistaken for a carefree college student instead of the world-renowned executive chef, author and television personality that he is. In 2003 he was introduced to millions of Americans on the TV program Good Morning America, where he's since become a regular guest. Jason's passion for fast, healthy eating and fresh produce led him to create a previous cookbook, Graze: Lots of Little Meals Fast, which taps into the growing trend towards eating smaller, more frequent meals by offering healthy small-portion recipes and alternative cooking methods to save time and effort. "It's all about little meals," says Jason. "Graze—have small meals more often! It's better for your weight and your heart, and keeps your energy and glycogen levels up." Good advice from the man whose skills with simple ingredients and a few pieces of Quixtar's iCook cookware can win over your stomach while his charm (and emphasis on good health) win over your heart.
